Artistic Expressions: Being Transgender
©Kristian McElroy
This piece speaks to the push and pull and burden of being transgender that I deal with on a day to day basis. Sharing it with just two people wasn't easy for me, but their support has been a blessing. It is extremely difficult not being comfortable in your own skin and in the gender you were born in. No matter how hard you try you can't make yourself identify and be comfortable as a girl, a woman, a female. The struggle is written in the words; the burden is holding everything up and in as it suffocates you; the mirror separates the true gender you identify and are comfortable as, but yet you are still the woman on the other side. This is one of my greatest struggles, this is a inside artistic and written expression of a vulnerable deep part of me.
